THE MIRROR THEATER: Breaking Ground Summer 2015

GAAR will build and operate a year-round performing arts complex accommodating a performance hall for a live audience in addition to support and production staff (including artists, ushers, and artistic staff). The seating and stage will be entirely flexible according to need.

The complex will include a performance hall (Shakespearean based), adjoining black box rehearsal rooms, lobby/gallery space, scenery and costuming shops, dressing rooms and other artistic support facilities, administration areas and rehearsal studios. To enhance the experience of a night out, the performing arts complex will be designed to include a café, designed to support 50 people and 10 kitchen staff.

The facility will be both a cultural corridor between Greensboro and the rest of the world, as well as a community space open to the use of individuals (via practice and rehearsal studios) and other organizations.  GAAR will also develop and present its own artistic work in the building, including its own educational programs. GAAR, as administrator and non-profit owner of the building, will ensure that the building is a center of life and vitality for the benefit of all.

As of March 2015, due to the extraordinary generosity of our local donor, GAAR has come to a Purchase and Sales agreement with David Allen for 10 acres of Hazendale Farm. GAAR has also retained the services of H3 Hardy Collaboration Architecture, whose founding partner, Hugh Hardy FAIA, is celebrated for his theater designs. H3 and their engineering and specialty consultant team is currently preparing for design development, having received approval of the required Zoning Application from the Town of Greensboro. The Vermont Act 250 submission has been filed.

THE 2015 SEASON: Dreams of Infinite Space

The Greensboro Arts Alliance & Residency honors the groundbreaking for its new theater, THE MIRROR, with a blowout 2015 season. GAAR will present four plays with a decidedly Elizabethan theme: Kiss Me Kate, Hamlet, and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, supported by You're A Good Man Charlie Brown as a children's offering. The 2015 season will also see the return of the Fourth of July Square Dance, now presented with GAAR Advisory Board Co-Chairman David Kelley’s help. Summer Music From Greensboro will return on July 21st, as will The Funnery at the conclusion of their camps. Our Writers' Forum returns for its second straight season, as will our Children's Camps, and a host of other programs. Check this site frequently for more information; we'll be posting more soon.
